Introducing: Hills Portrait of the Year

We have worked with so many wonderful families in the past 12 months.

Why we’re doing this:

My whole mission since I started Deb Smith Photography 12 years ago has been to provide an affirming, unique experience for people through child and family photography.
I’ve been working really hard to grow and reach more people so that the world knows family photography is worth it
I want to make sure our work aligns with our values (fun, natural, and caring)
For our team to challenge ourselves creatively
To feature fresh new content for our new website (coming soon)

There are so many stand-out images we love from our sessions last year – but don’t just take our word for it!

Here’s your chance to have your vote.

What makes an image stand out:

Emotion: how the image makes you feel
Narrative: does the image tell a story?
Artistic qualities: framing, lighting, the unexpected

Which images speak to you? Which one do you most find moving, beautiful, challenging, artistic or funny? We want to hear your feedback about what you love in a portrait.

Prizes: What you can win

There are several prizes to be won….

Both the voters and the subjects of the photos (all client families who hired us to take their portraits in 2021) are eligible for prizes.

For the voters to win:

THE MAIN PRIZE VALUE $2000

One lucky voter will win a Hills Family Portrait experience worth $2000. This includes a studio or forest session ($100 value) plus photographic artwork of your choice (wall art, album, or prints with digital files). worth up to $1900.

Runner up prizes:

Ten (10) lucky voters will win a Hills Family Portrait experience worth $300. This includes a studio or forest session ($100 value) and a $200 gift card for credit towards photographic artwork.

For the subjects IN the photos to win

Portrait of the Year (the photo with the most votes when the voting period closes)

This family will receive a 12×18″ framed fine art print of the winning image (or $778 credit for artwork from their session if they already have this framed enlargement).

Families in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place

These families will receive an 11×14″ mounted, torn-edge fine art print of the photo (or an alternative photo from their session if they already have this photo).

This thriving portrait studio has grown from a single photographer to a small team. That’s me (Deb) above, and Emma, our fabulous retoucher, top right. 2021 was our first year as Hills Portrait Studio (previously Deb Smith Photography).

We love working with families! To celebrate, we’ve compiled a selection of 100 of our favourite photos from 2021.

VOTING Terms and Conditions

Voting entrants must be 18+ years of age.
Voting entrants be a resident of South Australia
Only one entry per family / IP address will be accepted.
Entries close at midnight, Sunday 13th March 2022.
The top five images to receive the most votes will be announced on our socials (Instagram and Facebook) on Monday 14th March 2022, and the families in those images will be contacted personally by us. Each family will receive a mounted 7×10″ fine art print (11×14″ wall mount size).
One lucky voter will be randomly selected to win a Hills Family Portrait experience valued at $2000 (outdoors or studio session worth $100, with $1900 credit towards photographic artwork).
Ten more voters will be offered a runner-up prize valued at $300 for a Hills Family Portrait experience (outdoors or studio session worth $100, with $200 credit towards photographic artwork) and notified by Wednesday 16th March.
All prizes must be used by the end of August 2022. Extensions may be possible in extenuating circumstances at the discretion of the studio.
Prizes cannot be substituted for any other product or service (such as a mini session, special photography projects, or business or commercial photography) or combined with any other promotion, gift voucher or discount, and are not redeemable for cash.

I had a photo shoot with Deb earlier this year with my 3 children, one of whom has ASD. She was so wonderful and kind and patient and captured some very lovely moment of us. It was an amazing experience and the package I bought is amazing quality and the pictures just irreplaceable. Amazing day captured very beautifully. Highly recommend x
